Counselor's Corner

Wildcat    Hello! My name is Christy Hill and I am   the School Counselor on the Elementary and Intermediate campuses.  I am super excited to be here at Winona again this school year!!!
If we haven’t had a chance to meet, here is a little about me:
I have literally been in education my entire life…from the days of being a student, to working with students; education has been a life-long pursuit.  I was a teacher in grades K-3 prior to finishing my Master's degree.  Once I attained my Master of Education Degree, I worked as a Diagnostician; assessing, interpreting, and helping develop programs for struggling students.  As I assessed student’s needs, I began to realize that so many students have social and emotional needs that need to be addressed in order for them to be successful in the academic and educational setting,so I set to work on my second graduate degree in the area of School Counseling. I have been a School Counselor for the past seven years now.

My counseling services are available to all students and include:
**Individual Counseling
**Group Counseling
**Classroom Guidance
**Peer Mediation
**Behavioral Goal Setting

Guidance Referral System
*Teacher/Principal Referral-Teachers or Principals may refer students to the counselor based on classroom need and/or
discipline system.
* Parent Referral - Parents are welcome to call-
or email-me to refer their child for
cou
nseling.

Winona has adopted a new character education program, Rachel's Challenge. This program encourages kindness and promotes positive acts of kindness to help eliminate bullying behaviors.

**Friends
of Rachel (F.O.R.)**
Friends of Rachel is a group of students
committed to modeling and spreading KINDNESS around our school and community.
The members of F
.O.R. will serve as leaders for the campus and will complete projects such as,school-wide projects, Chain of Kindness campaign, making cards (for the sick, injured or elderly), and welcoming new students.

**Leadership team members and dates/locations for meetings will be announced shortly.

In addition to counseling, I am responsible for promoting citizenship. I provide character lessons, once each six weeks, covering the Six Pillars of Character Education.

I also have the privilege of organizing the award assemblies, Wildcats of the Week, and ABBIT activities.  ABBIT, A’s & B’s Because I Try, is our honor society here at Winona Elementary. I will have planned activities throughout the school year for those students.

Please feel free to call or email me at anytime with questions, concerns, or comments.  My email is chill@winonaisd.org & office # is 903-939-4806.

I am looking forward to a great 2016-17 school year here at Winona Elementary!!!  Go Wildcats!!!
