As counselors, we have the privilege to work with every single student. Our primary responsibility is to promote the academic, personal, and social development of all students. By implementing our Guidance Curriculum, which consists of character development, along with social and emotional learning, will develop the whole child. To achieve this development, we will work with students at the classroom level, in small groups, as well as provide short-term individual counseling. We will also meet with parents, teachers, staff, and consult with community organizations to benefit and meet the needs of all Winona students.

We would like the students here to think of our office as a warm and friendly place, where they are always welcome – a place where they can get help if they feel confused or worried.

We are here for all students and want to ensure that your child has a productive and positive school year. If we can support your child in any way, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Any student can request to meet with us, or they can be referred by a teacher, administrator, or parent.

Consent

SB 12 now requires parents to give consent before schools can provide mental or behavioral health services, such as short-term, school-based counseling for emotional or behavioral support, and social-emotional learning. In accordance with the law, the District must notify parents of staff services related to school counseling and give parents the opportunity to opt out before those services are provided to their child. School counseling services are more fully explained in board policy FFEA, and student mental health is covered in board policy FFEB. Information about threat assessments can be found in Board Policy FFB.

Confidentiality

Please note that all information discussed is confidential between the counselor and your child, unless they are planning on hurting themselves, hurting someone else or someone is hurting them.
