Winona ISD Implements MyON in Support of #Read30 Initiative to Improve Literacy Skills

                   For immediate release:  February, 2019

In a move towards further boosting the literacy skills of its students, Winona ISD has added online personalized literacy environment myON to its reading curriculum. The addition will give students a customized reading experience with infinite access to thousands of digital books from award-winning Capstone imprints, as well as our many partner publishers.

Designed for all preK-12 students, myON provides access to the largest integrated online library of digital books with multimedia supports, tailored to a student’s interests and reading ability. With its acclaimed embedded assessment features, students have the ability to monitor their reading growth and observe how their Lexile® score changes.

“Adding a digital library to our physical libraries here at Winona ISD, will bridge the technology gap for our tech savvy students.”  “Showing our students that we are current with issues and trends will surely gain popular attention.” said Connie Greer, District Librarian.

The educational benefits students receive from myON do not stop once they leave the classroom. They are able to access the digital literacy environment from any computer with an Internet connection, or offline on any device in which the free myON app has been downloaded.   This availability, supports the districts reading initiative, #Read30.  The initiative is to remind and support students through social media to read every day for at least 30 minutes.  This school support helps to ensure a growth in reading away from school to achieve a goal towards lifelong learning through literature.

The online platform uses cloud-based technology to connect school and home through anytime, anywhere access to an expanding library of digital books, and to provide a safe, social network where students can read, rate and review digital books, and recommend them to classmates. Students can also use the literacy tools to respond to reading, write journal entries, or take notes for a writing/research project.
