Winona Middle School Band
The Winona Band Program begins in 6th grade with our Beginner Band, where students take their first steps into the world of music. Each student is placed in a like-instrument class (such as flute, clarinet, trumpet, etc.) to ensure they receive the individualized instruction needed to develop strong fundamentals specific to their instrument. This focused setting allows students to build a solid foundation in tone production, technique, music reading, and ensemble skills.
In 7th and 8th grade, students come together to form the Winona Middle School Band, a full ensemble that represents our campus in concerts, school events, and the UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Evaluation. At this level, students begin performing more challenging music and continue to build on the skills developed in beginner band.
Throughout middle school, students also have opportunities to participate in:
Region Band auditions
Solo & Ensemble contests
Public performances and concerts
The goal of the Winona Middle School Band program is to instill a love of music, teach responsibility and teamwork, and prepare students for continued success in the Winona High School Band.
