IS MY CHILD TOO SICK TO GO TO SCHOOL?

Parents are often confronted with this decision when their child complains of not feeling well. The guidelines set forth by the district can help you decide.

  • FEVER: Students should remain home if they have an oral temperature of 100.0 or higher (before taking fever reducing medication such as Tylenol or Advil), and be fever free for 24 hours WITHOUT fever reducing medication before returning to school

  • CONTAGIOUS ILLNESS: Student's should remain home for 24 hours after starting antibiotics or longer if directed by their physician.

  • DIARRHEA: Students experiencing 3 or more watery stools in a 24 hour period should remain at home until diarrhea free for 24 hours.

  • VOMITING: A student who has vomited 2 or more times in a 24 hour period and/or has other symptoms related to contagious illness, such as fever, should be excluded from school until they are symptom free WITHOUT the use of medication for 24 hours.

  • If your child is sent home from school with a fever, diarrhea or vomiting- they need to remain home from school the next day also!

A good rule of thumb is if your child does not feel well in the morning before leaving home, they probably wont feel any better once they get to school. Attendance is important, but we want them to be well and ready to learn. If students come to school sick, they are exposing classmates, teachers and others to illness.
