The Student Support Services Department strives to meet the needs of each individual student at Winona ISD. Winona ISD is ready, willing and able to identify and serve all children with disabilities residing within Winona ISD's jurisdiction, who are in need of specially designed instruction and related services.

Winona ISD is responsible for identifying, locating, and evaluating children from birth through age 21 who have known or suspected disabilities and who live in or attend school within the district. This process determines whether the child requires special education and related services. Child Find also includes children living in group homes or nursing facilities, as well as those attending private schools or being homeschooled within the district boundaries, regardless of their place of residence.

Any community member concerned about a child’s well-being can participate in the Child Find process. Referrals for children who may have a disability are accepted, and parent consent is obtained before any further steps are taken. All information is kept confidential to protect the privacy of the child and family. If an evaluation is needed, it is provided at no cost to the parent. The Notice of Procedural Safeguards; Rights of Parents of Students with Disabilities explains the specific rights and responsibilities of the parent in the special education process. This information can also be obtained through Winona ISD’s Student Support Services Office.
